Singing the bass for Won By One is veteran Paul Hyde. Paul has been singing for 25 years with various groups, most notably the Blackwoods from 2000-2006 while performing daily at the Black Bear Theater in Pigeon Forge, TN.
Paul was born in Meriden, CT and was raised in the Catholic Church. In October of 1973, Paul surrendered his life to God during a Richard Hogue Crusade appearing at Morristown East High School. After graduating high school, Paul served two enlistments as a United States Marine.
Paul has been married to his wife Freda for eleven years and has two daughters, Leslie Anne and Madelyn Elizabeth. They reside in Morristown, TN where Paul is involved in community service filling the roll of Executive Director of the Hamblen County Substance Abuse Coalition since March of 2008.
Paul’s greatest influence in gospel music is the late George Younce, bass vocalist for the Cathedral Quartet. Paul states “Like George, I love to interject feeling and emotion into my solo work. George sang lead early in his career which instilled the passion to sing bass with the feeling and vocal moves that you would expect of a lead singer, a trait that most bass vocalists do not possess. I have always said “There are two people that I wish to emulate, Jesus and George!”
